History

photo1.gifWe are located 15 minutes north of Kingston, Ontario, Canada at Sydenham, Ontario. We started to get interested in Highland Cattle when my husband and I drove past a farm everyday to work and loved looking at the Highland cattle up the road from us and decided to buy a heifer calf for a Christmas Gift to each other. We had a few Herefords and cross Herefords at the time and we felt that if we were going to raise beef, we might as well have beef cattle that not only have great meat but are great to look at as well. We also didn't at the time have a barn and the fact that we could leave them out all winter because of their thick coat was a real bonus.

After having one Highland for a year it wasn't enough. We wanted more, so we gradually built up our herd buying animals from some of the best breeders in Canada. We decided early on to have our own bull because my husband and I work full time jobs as well as raise Highlands and it was much more effective for us to have our own bull rather than miss a breeding heat.

Another bonus raising Highlands was their easy calving especially with us not being around all the time to keep an eye on them.

We have found that the Highlands will graze where the Herefords would not. They are real browsers eating everything from golden rod to even attempting thistles.
